Is CVID the same as AIDS?

CVID, or common variable immune deficiency, is not the same as AIDS, or acquired immune deficiency syndrome. Whereas AIDS is caused by a viral infection (HIV) and is contagious, CVID may be inherited or simply arise; in more than 90 percent of cases the exact cause is not determined. CVID is not contagious like a virus. Though both illnesses compromise the immune system, they are not the same.
