What is subclinical hypothyroidism?

Subclinical hypothyroidism means that blood tests indicate hypothyroidism by the presence of high levels of TSH (thyroid-stimulated hormone). Other than test results, there are no obvious symptoms of the disorder. In this case, doctors may choose to prescribe synthetic thyroid hormone medicine or they may simply choose to monitor the condition to see if TSH levels go higher or if symptoms develop.
