Is hypopharyngeal cancer serious?

Hypopharyngeal cancer can be very serious as this form of cancer tends to spread quickly. The cancer stage, which defines the extent of invasion and metastasis, is an important determinant of prognosis. The five year survival in patients whose cancer is stage I at diagnosis is 53 percent. This number drops to 39 percent for those with stage II disease, 36 percent for those with stage III disease, and 24 percent for those with stage IV disease. You should speak to your doctor in order to better understand your prognosis.
