Is hypoglycemia serious?

In general, mild or moderate hypoglycemia are not serious, as long as the low blood sugar is treated quickly and is not allowed to become severe. However, hypoglycemia can indicate the presence of a more serious disease. Hypoglycemia in diabetics may indicate a need to adjust the dosage of diabetes medication. Severe hypoglycemia, on the other hand, can be very serious. When blood sugar falls to very low levels, the brain is not receiving the sugar it needs to function properly. If not treated right away, severe hypoglycemia can cause coma, seizures, brain damage, and even death.
