Velpeau hernias are more common in women than men. Velpeau hernias are a type of femoral hernia. Women are naturally more prone to develop femoral hernia; whereas, men are more likely to develop inguinal hernias. While the cause of a particular hernia is not always known, both femoral and inguinal hernias can result from malformations before birth.
