Belladonna by itself is considered an herbal supplement. It has not been studied by the FDA and in high quantities or if touched directly, has serious side effects. In the prescription-available medications, belladonna tends to be combined with medications that have some addictive properties. While the belladonna may not be addictive, the medications that you would get with it can be. They are used for a variety of reasons, however, and when used under the supervision of your physician for short periods of time only when needed, they can be safe and effective.
