The primary culprit lurking behind liver cancer is hepatitis, an inflammation that affects 100 million people globally. Hepatitis is caused by certain viruses, as well as too much alcohol or drugs, including over-the-counter acetaminophen.

Hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver, is commonly caused by the hepatitis A, B, and C viruses. Hepatitis can also be caused by an autoimmune response, exposure to poisons, and alcohol consumption. Other disorders and diseases that affect the liver include inflammatory bowel disease, Wilson's disease, and cystic fibrosis and mononucleosis. Depending upon the cause, hepatitis can be acute (short-term) or chronic.
