Finding the right doctor is the key to managing hepatitis C. After your diagnosis, your family doctor may refer you to a specialist who can better oversee your care. These specialists have additional training and experience in the type of care you'll need, and may be more up to date on the latest antiviral drugs or liver health.
Doctors who care for people with hepatitis C include:
- Infectious Disease Specialists—internal medicine doctors specially trained to diagnose and manage infectious diseases, such as hepatitis, pneumonia and HIV
- Hepatologists—doctors specially trained to diagnose and treat liver disease
