Most of the treatments for hemorrhoids do not involve medications. If your symptoms are mild, however, your doctor may recommend some over-the-counter ointments with hydrocortisone or witch hazel to ease itching and pain. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may also be used for especially painful hemorrhoids.
