How effective are sacubitril and valsartan in treating heart failure?

Donna Hill Howes, RN
Family Practitioner

The large study that led to the approval of Entresto was stopped early because early results showed strong benefits. The combination was compared to enalapril, which itself is a highly effective heart failure treatment. People taking sacubitril + valsartan had significantly lower rates of hospitalization for heart failure and death due to cardiovascular causes than those taking enalapril. People in both groups were also taking other recommended heart failure drugs.
