Does hearing damage affect men and women differently?

Men and women are affected by hearing loss the same in that the symptoms and treatments are the same for both sexes. However, men are more likely to have hearing damage. In fact, almost 60 percent of those who report being deaf or hard of hearing are men. There are a number of factors that contribute to this, but it may be that men are more prone to head injuries and trauma than women and men may work more frequently in professions that involve long term exposure to noise. Also, males are slightly more likely than girls to suffer genetic causes of deafness.
