Do childhood earaches cause hearing loss later in life?

An earache itself won’t cause hearing loss, but an ear infection that goes untreated can lead to hearing loss. If you think your child may have an ear infection -- symptoms include tugging at the ear, fussiness and sometimes a fever -- take her to see the pediatrician. If the ear infection is caused by bacteria, your child will need antibiotics to treat it and avoid complications such as hearing loss and perforation of the eardrum.
