How much sleep should a senior person get?

There is no exact number to quantify how many hours of sleep you need. The right amount of sleep is the amount you need to feel energized to do the things you need to do the next day. Be mindful of signs of sleep deprivation like not feeling rested in the morning, memory problems or irritability.

Sometimes it's the people around you who will notice that something isn't right, that you are not quite yourself. If during your adult life you always had six hours of sleep and now you're expecting to get nine hours, that's not realistic. That is why the sleep diary is important; it can tell your doctor what is normal for you.
