Is there anything special I need to eat if I just started working out?

If you generally eat well, you’re ahead of the game! Good nutrition is the basis for any sports nutrition program, whether you are just starting out or are a competitive athlete. Choose nutritious foods from the five food groups: Grains -- Any food made from wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley or another cereal grain is a grain product. Bread, pasta, oatmeal, breakfast cereals, tortillas, and grits are examples of grain products; Fruits -- apples, bananas, berries, citrus, etc. Eat the whole fruit instead of juice when possible; Vegetables -- leafy greens, tomatoes, carrots, onions, beets, etc. Try to eat as many different colors as possible; Healthy fats and oils (vegetable oils like canola, olive and nut oils, and foods containing healthy fats such as nuts, nut butters, avocado, and fish; Meats & beans -- Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans or peas, eggs, nuts, and seeds are considered part of this group. Notice that nuts and beans can also be found in other groups because they have lots of different nutrients. Other than drinking lots of water, you probably don’t need to change your diet to meet your workout needs, if you already eat a healthy diet.
