What are some cruciferous vegetables?

Cruciferous vegetables come from the botanical genus Brassica. These vegetables were named for the Latin word "cross" because they bear cross shaped flowers. Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, collards, mustard greens, rutabagas and turnips all fall into the cruciferous family. Cruciferous vegetables are available year round due to new farming, storage, and transportation advances.
