What are health benefits of persimmons?

Persimmon is an excellent source of vitamin A -- one medium persimmon provides about half your daily recommended amount. Persimmons are also a rich source of vitamin C and fiber. Two varieties are widely available: Fuyu and Hachiya.

Persimmons are a fruit originally cultivated in Japan and where they are consumed as eagerly as oranges in the West. Though there are native persimmons trees in the United States they were originally brought here from Japan in the late nineteenth century. Today they are mainly grown in California. Persimmons are a very nutritious fruit. They are worth trying for their exceptional flavor and have the added benefit of being high in vitamin C, beta carotene, and potassium. They are fat and cholesterol free.
