Should I be worried if I become ill during pregnancy?

Dr. Jeanne Morrison, PhD
Family Practitioner

If you become ill while you are pregnant, talk with your doctor. Some illnesses that occur during pregnancy can have negative affects on the developing fetus, such as cerebral palsy. Illnesses such as measles, syphilis, toxoplasmosis, cytomegalovirus, and even chicken pox have been linked to cerebral palsy. If you are able, get immunized against whatever you can before becoming pregnant. Otherwise, work with your doctor to avoid and treat illness.
