Under the health care reform law, coverage must be allowed to continue until the child reaches the age of 26. Plan sponsors must make dependent coverage available to adult children up until that day. Plan sponsors are free to elect more generous benefit designs, if available. Examples include covering dependents until the end of the month or even the year in which they attain the age of 26.
