CAM, or complementary and alternative medicine, includes therapies such as meditation, acupuncture, exercise, and hypnosis as well as the use of dietary supplements. While complementary medicine is used with traditional medicine, alternative medicine is used instead of traditional medicine. Alternative cancer treatments are largely unproven and some, particularly those promoted by individuals promising miraculous cures, may be fraudulent. Complementary therapies, however, can be very beneficial when added to a traditional regimen. If you do decide to explore complementary or alternative treatments, you may want to speak with your doctor.
