How is pili torti diagnosed?

You can often identify pili torti by its distinctive symptoms. There are a number of conditions that can cause a similar appearance to pili torti, though, and a differential diagnosis can be made by looking at the hair shaft under a microscope. The characteristic180-degree twisting along the axis of the shaft, which causes sections to be flattened, is not visible without magnification.
