There are a wide variety of topical preparations, most of them over-the-counter, available for the treatment of dandruff. In addition, shampooing with tea tree oil, harvested from the Australian tea tree, is thought to have a beneficial effect on symptoms associated with dandruff. Also, lifestyle changes such as decreasing the use of hair styling preparations, eating a balanced diet, managing stress, and modestly increasing one's exposure to the sun may be help with symptoms of dandruff.
