What are benign breast cysts?

Breast cysts are fluid-filled sacs within the breast that can be painful or worrisome, but are generally benign. Breast cysts develop when an overgrowth of glands and connective tissue block milk ducts, causing them to dilate and fill with fluid. They are most common in pre-menopausal women in their 30s or 40s and usually disappear after menopause.
