Would a family history of glaucoma prevent me from having Lasik surgery?

A family history of glaucoma does not necessarily eliminate LASIK surgery as an option. With current glaucoma management, we measure the pressure in your eye and the thickness of your cornea to determine the overall pressure of the eye. After LASIK surgery your cornea is thinner, and as a result this may affect the pressure reading obtained with today's instruments. There are newer instruments under development that will eliminate this effect in the future.
