How do gestational trophoblastic tumors affect the body?

The effects of gestational trophoblastic tumors depend on the type of tumor. Hydatidiform mole is a benign tumor that grows inside the uterus but does not spread outside it. Its effects are confined to the uterus. Chorioadenoma destruens (or invasive mole) is a malignant tumor that develops when a hydatidiform mole spreads into the myometrium (muscle) of the uterus. Choriocarcinoma is a malignant tumor that spreads outside the uterus to many parts of the body. Placental site trophoblastic tumor is also a malignant tumor that has a tendency to grow into the myometrium and sometimes spreads to other parts of the body.
