What should I know about taking flavoxate before taking it?

Flavoxate can cause drowsiness and blurry vision, so limit your activities until you know how the drug affects you. People with glaucoma, urinary tract blockage, intestinal blockage or gastrointestinal conditions, such as achalasia, should not take flavoxate.  Avoid alcohol, unless your doctor approves, and protect yourself from excess heat or sunlight. Let your doctor know about any past urinary or gastrointestinal problems before taking the drug. Other urinary medications may interact with flavoxate. Tell your doctor about those and any other drugs you are taking.
