How does carnosine promote good health?

Many claims have been made with respect to the therapeutic actions of carnosine, including antihypertensive, immunity-enhancing, wound-healing, and anticancer effects. These claims are based primarily on preliminary Russian research. Unfortunately, the claims have not been convincingly documented or subjected to rigorous clinical evaluation. Furthermore, although carnosine is absorbed intact from the gastrointestinal tract, it is broken down extensively in the blood, especially in people who exercise regularly.
