How do medications treat fragile X syndrome?

Fragile X syndrome is usually treated with a variety of interventions, including medications. Doctors can help address behavioral problems in people with fragile X syndrome by prescribing medications for attention or anxiety. These medications usually work in conjunction with counseling or therapy. Researchers are currently studying the effectiveness of a medication designed to address the underlying causes of fragile X syndrome.  They are also working on a gene therapy and protein replacement therapy to help those with fragile X syndrome.
