Are there alternative treatments for Fabry disease?

Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) helps stabilize or prevent disease progression in Fabry disease by addressing the underlying cause of the condition. ERT is a treatment that replaces the missing enzyme through an infusion every other week.  Studies have shown that the infused enzyme can help reduce the amount of the fatty substance known as glycolipid that builds up in the body causing symptoms of Fabry disease. The earlier the treatment is begun, the better, as ERT cannot reverse permanent damage which has already occurred.
