If gastrointestinal tract birth defects are diagnosed before birth, doctors may try to operate and treat the problem. This is not always possible, but it is good for the parents to plan for the birth and prepare for complications and surgery afterwards. The doctors and parents can have a better treatment plan if the baby's problems are known before birth.
