What is appendix cancer?

The appendix is located in the gastrointestinal tract and seems to serve no important function to the human body. Cancer of the appendix is what occurs when abnormal cells in the appendix multiply and form a mass called a tumor. There are several different kinds of appendix cancer that may or may not spread to other organs. Appendix cancer is extremely rare and the prognosis is mostly dependent on the size of the tumor. Treatment usually involves surgically removing the tumor or tumors and chemotherapy.
