What are the side effects of balsalazide?

While taking balsalazide you may experience abdominal pain or stomach upset, diarrhea, vomiting, gas, loss of appetite, heartburn, or constipation. You may also experience headaches or muscle pain, a stuffy nose, insomnia or tiredness, dry mouth, joint pain, coughing, or urinary tract infection. If these side effects don't go away or get worse, contact your doctor. Also let your doctor know right away if you experience any of the following side effects, as they may be signs of a medical emergency: an allergic reaction, such as hives, an itchy rash, swelling around the mouth or face, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing; signs of an infection, such as flu-like symptoms or sore throat; stomach bloating; severe diarrhea; yellowing of the skin or eyes or darkened urine; fever; fatigue; or rectal bleeding.
