What are the risks of using VPRIV?

People who have allergies to VPRIV (velaglucerase alfa) or similar medications, should not use it. Pregnant and breastfeeding women will likely not experience any adverse effects, but should discuss with their doctors the possible risks of receiving VPRIV as should parents of children under four years of age. Anyone receiving VPRIV may experience discomfort during injection. If you feel unwell or have any changes at the injection site, tell your doctor. Some people's immune systems may react to VPRIV as if it were a disease or allergen and attempt to form an immunity to it. Your doctor should test you regularly to ensure that your body is not rejecting the treatment in this way. Lastly, you should talk to your doctor about any conditions or treatments you have or have had in the past, known allergies, current medications and supplements before receiving VPRIV.
