What is propantheline?

Propantheline, also known by the brand name Pro-Banthine, is a prescription medication to treat stomach ulcers. Propantheline is an anticholinergic agent, a type of medication that blocks the transmission of some nerve impulses, which reduces smooth muscle spasms. By decreasing the activity of muscles in the stomach, intestines, and bladder, propantheline helps to reduce the production of stomach acid that causes ulcers.
