What should I know about Asacol HD before taking it?

You and your doctor should carefully evaluate the risks of Asacol HD before taking it. You should tell your doctor about drugs you currently use and also about any drugs that have produced allergic reactions in the past. Allergy to aspirin or other salicylates is particularly relevant. Pre-existing kidney or liver problems may make the side effects of Asacol HD more dangerous. You should be especially alert to side effects that begin immediately after you start taking Asacol HD; report anything unusual to your doctor.
