What are the possible side effects of Toviaz?

Dr. Jeanne Morrison, PhD
Family Practitioner
The most common side effects of Toviaz include:

- Dry mouth
- Constipation

There are simple, practical ways to minimize these side effects. For dry mouth, you could take small, frequent sips of water. Chewing gum may also help you to keep your mouth moist. Constipation may be relieved with regular exercise. But you should first discuss any exercise with your doctor. You may want to add fiber and more fluids to your diet. Before you take Toviaz, be sure to discuss benefits and side effects with your doctor.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience serious side effects of Toviaz (fesoterodine extended-release tablet), including painful or difficult urination, inability to urinate, swollen hands or feet, chest pain and elevated, slow or irregular heartbeat.

Seek emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Toviaz. The symptoms of an allergic reaction include hives or an itchy skin rash. More severe signs include difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, tongue or throat. Call 911 if you experience these symptoms.

Less serious side effects of Toviaz include: dry mouth, dry eyes, blurry vision, dizziness, headache, constipation, difficulty sleeping, insomnia, upset stomach, cough, dry throat, back pain and mild skin rash. Tell your doctor if these become bothersome.

Tell your doctor if you experience any other side effects while taking Toviaz.
