What are the side effects of Alvimopan?

Common side effects of Alvimopan include gas, indigestion, heartburn, back pain, and constipation. You may also experience trouble urinating. If these side effects don't go away or get worse, contact your doctor.

Also let your doctor know right away if you experience any of the following side effects, as they may be signs of a medical emergency:
  • signs of an allergic reaction such as hives or an itchy rash, swelling around the mouth or face, or chest tightness and difficulty breathing
  • unusually fast or slow heartbeat
  • chest pain or numbness in the limbs
  • feeling unusually worn out or tired
  • sudden vomiting or severe headache
  • fainting
  • pain, cramping, or weakness in the muscles
  • severe and ongoing pain or cramps in the stomach or diarrhea
  • inability to urinate
