What should I know about pancreatic enzymes before taking them?

Both adults and children have used pancreatic enzymes successfully to aid in digestion. There are certain precautions you should be aware of before taking pancreatic enzymes. You may not be able to take pancreatic enzymes if you are allergic to pork products, because the enzymes are typically obtained from the pancreas of a pig. Also, use caution if you have a history of gout, intestinal blockage, disease of the kidney, intestines or pancreas or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. If any of these conditions apply to you, consult with a doctor before taking pancreatic enzymes.
