How do pancreatic enzymes aid in digestion?

Pancreatic enzyme products replace missing enzymes that help to digest food. A deficiency of these enzymes may be caused by cystic fibrosis or swelling or blockage of the pancreas. It also may be due to the removal of part or all of the pancreas. Pancreatic enzyme products are made up of several different digestive enzymes from the pancreas that work to break down fats, proteins and carbohydrates in the body. Once these components of food are broken down, the body can absorb them more easily and convert them into energy.
