What is Nexium?

Nexium, or esomeprazole, is used to treat stomach acid disorders such as gastrointestinal reflux disease and ulcers. Nexium can also be used in combination with antibiotics to treat ulcers caused by bacterial infection. As part of a family of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors, Nexium decreases stomach acid production, thereby alleviating heartburn, damage to the esophagus, and other symptoms of excess stomach acid.
