What should I know about Prevacid before taking it?

Before taking Prevacid, you should know that this and other proton pump inhibitors could possibly increase your risks of a broken spine, wrist, or hip. Also, certain forms of Prevacid may contain phenylalanine, an amino acid that is extremely dangerous to people with phenylketonuria. If you have phenylketonuria, discuss this with your medical professional before taking Prevacid. Additionally, the drug sucralfate, sold as Carafate, can interfere with the absorption of Prevacid. If you are taking Carafate, be sure to wait at least a half hour after each dose of Prevacid.
