Is it safe to have gallbladder surgery for gallstones?

Surgery to remove your gallbladder for gallstones is generally safe, but sometimes there are complications. The most common is damage to the bile ducts, which can result in pain and very serious infection. Some injuries may need to be repaired by another surgery, but many can be treated using other methods.
