Can gallstones cause acid reflux?

A 2001 article in the American Journal of Gastroenterology found that gallstones do not pose a risk for the occurrence of acid reflux. The confusion may lie in the fact that there are some risk factors which predispose people to getting one or both of these diseases, including obesity, pregnancy, family history and consumption of a high-fat diet. There is no association between gallstones and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
