What should I avoid while taking Prozac?

While you're being treated with the antidepressant Prozac (fluoxetine), you should avoid taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), which is another type of antidepressant, as well as either of the antipsychotic drugs thioridazine or Orap (pimozide). Prozac may interact with certain supplements, including St. John's wort and tryptophan, so you may need to avoid these as well.

It's best not to drink while taking Prozac. Alcohol can increase the drowsiness that's a common side effect of the drug. When you first begin taking Prozac, don't drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
