How soon after starting Prozac will my symptoms improve?

Each person responds to the antidepressant Prozac (fluoxetine) a little differently, but most people begin to see an improvement in their depression symptoms after four or five weeks of taking the drug. Once you start feeling better, you should continue to take Prozac as directed. Stopping the drug abruptly can cause withdrawal symptoms, such as irritability, insomnia, dizziness, mood changes and headaches.

Let your doctor know if your symptoms get worse while taking Prozac, or if you develop side effects.
