How soon after taking fluoxetine will my symptoms improve?

It sometimes takes a month or more for symptoms to improve when taking fluoxetine, depending on why you are taking it. Your doctor may prescribe one dose and, after observation, increase or decrease the dose depending on your reaction to it. If you have bulimia nervosa, you may see improvement within a week or so, but if you take fluoxetine for obsessive-compulsive disorder, it may take more than five weeks to get better. Shifting dosages may influence how long it takes for symptoms to improve when taking fluoxetine. Regardless of how quickly symptoms improve, it is important to continue treatment until your doctor tells you when and how to stop.
