Does Levaquin have an interaction with Chloroquine (anti-malarial)?

Levaquin (Levofloxacin) and chloroquine are widely used in combination. However, certain database reports one interaction that should be taken into consideration when these two drugs are taken together. Both medications may cause a change in heart rate that may lead to abnormal heart rhythms. Patients with a history of heart conditions or elevated blood pressure may be at increased risk for abnormal heart rhythms when using these two drugs together. Although the risk is very low for healthy individuals, all patients should further discuss the risks versus benefits of using these medications together as well as other treatment options with their doctor.
