Can flat feet be prevented?

Children usually inherit flat feet, so they cannot be prevented. However, adults can be at increased risk for developing flat feet for a number of reasons, including obesity, playing high-impact sports like tennis, and taking corticosteroids. You may be able to lower your risk of developing flat feet by lowering your weight, exercising and playing sports with proper care, and, if possible, avoiding corticosteroids.
