Custom foot orthoses (shoe inserts) are designed to be placed in your shoe to correct or compensate for a structural problem that affects your foot, your gait, or both. While over-the-counter shoe inserts -- the foam or silicone pads often sold in drugstores -- can provide extra cushioning, custom orthoses -may correct a specific imbalance and tend to be more rigid. Orthoses - they may help support your foot after surgery.
