A breathing emergency is any respiratory problem that can threaten a person’s life. Breathing emergencies happen when air cannot travel freely and easily into the lungs.

Respiratory distress, respiratory arrest and choking are common examples. In a breathing emergency, seconds count, so you must react at once.
