What are the side effects of dinoprostone cervical gel?

Dinoprostone cervical gel rarely causes side effects. The women who did experience side effects experienced fever, upset stomach, back pain, warmth in the vaginal area, and abnormal contractions. Changes in the fetus's heartbeat also occurred in rare instances. After the delivery, women should continue to watch for side effects which, while occurring rarely, could be serious, including continued fever, pain in the lower part of the abdomen, vaginal discharge with a strong odor, and increased bleeding from the uterus. In rare cases you may have an allergic reaction to the drug. Call your health care provider immediately if you have trouble breathing or develop an itchy rash, hives, or swelling in your face and throat.
